DESCRIPTION

 

L'Alegra is a young estate, with old viticulture traditions: the old vineyards called "Ciabulin" belonged to the grand-grand father.
 
Located in Settime (very close to Asti), it takes care of the traditional mixed agriculture conduction typical of this area, joining to the growing up of the vineyard those of the nut's plants, further to the zoo-technical breeding completely authomatized, which is a part of the biologic cycle.
 
From the old vineyards "Ciabulin" born the desire to expand the company in this area (at the north of Asti) where the viticulture, activity carried on only from old people, was going to disappear.
 
Starting to search new lands with the same characteristics, selecting and managing directly all the process (starting from the project for a new vineyards to the first harvets), now we have reached the perfect balance for the production af a good quality wines accoridng to the bio-requirements.
 
The cultivation of the vineyards join to that of the nut's plants, allows us to optimise the different surfaces respecting the nature and the agronomic choices, offering the possibility to have all these lands mixed which offer a view of rare and armonious balance.
 
Our main goal is to re-launch the agriculture in this part of the Monferrato, respecting our lands and improving their natural characteristics.
 
 Settime d'Asti, is far from Asti 9 km, 50 Km from Torino, 120 km from Genova and 100 Km from Milano.
 
Settime was founded at the seven mile of the roman street which from Asti reached the township of Industria (now called Monteu da Po), already existing at the time of the Roman Empire. The old village of Settime has been destroyed, together with the Castle, in 1309 and it was re-build in the nearest hills.
Settime belonged to the Roero Family from 1407 up to the of the XIX Century. At the beginning of 1700 D.C., during the war to succeed to the Spanish Emperor, the French people invaded most of the province of Asti: they entered in the city of Settime in 1703 and left the town only after having sacked the houses and destroyed the Castle, already partially destroyed from the soldiers of the Duke of Feuillade, the same who guided the siege of Turin in 1706.
 
The next years have been dedicated to re-build the town, the Castle and the Church.
The Roero Family governed the town up to 1874, when, due to game-debts, they were obliged to sold out the Castle to the Coconito di Montiglio Family.
 
The township of Settime is a part of the Rilate Valley Community together with other 13 towns of this area.
 
The zoo.technical breeding is locaed in Settime, in Regione Passau, at the top of the hill and it's composed of a prefabricated buildingalla which includes offices, warehouse, workshop, technical services.
 
The breeding cycle starts with the arrival of the hens, aged about 100 days, that after 40 days of acclimatization start to produce eggs. The kind of hens is called "Gallus Gallus".
 
The production is about 5.400 eggs each day (about one for each hen). The life cycle of the hen is of 9 months and only the 5% of them die for natural accidents. The hens have the access at the green, outside the stock-farm, through a special exit.
 
 
 
 
 
Authomatic system to pick up the eggs
 The feeding of the hens is composed of kernel, maize, wheat, herbs, minerals integrative.
 
The welfare of the hens is assured by ideal lighting, by good ventilation and through windows of the total surface of 90 mq each.
 
The harvesting of the eggs is made with a ribbon conveyer which transport the product at the top of the breeding, in the area dedicated to the storage.

Control panels which allow us to check out the sorrounding conditions inside the breeding (temperature, humidity, ventilation) and which govern the daily ration of food for the hen.

The Guyot training system of the vineyards, already carried on in these areas from many years, is the necessary way to start to reach the final goal of quality, further to many selections of the grapes before harvest and to the care in the cultivation of the soil, on which the vines have been planted.
 
For this reason, we provide the installation of many nests to allow the repopulation of the birds and to avoid the presence of animal parasites, which can create damages to the vines. The grass of the soil is controlled in order to avoid the erosion caused by the rain, such as the manure, which used in little quantities, guarantees a low hield per hectar. Where necessary, the selection of the grapes hel us in reaching the otpimal maturation level.

 Mandolera Vineyard: all along the side of the hills that in the past were the location of the Mandolera farm, it is skirted from one of the two street which reach Settime. It produces Barbera and Cortese.
 
Castello Vineyard: it is made of 3 new hectares of vineyards (Barbera and Chardonnay) all around the Castle of Settime and together with the vineyards alredy in production, gives the top Barbera.
 
Cortanze Vineyard: located in the township of Cortanze, it produces Barbera and Grignolino; the new vineyard of Freisa, on the top of the same hill, at south-east offers a wonderful view of four terraces extract on the side of the hill.
 
Valdeperno Vineyard: located all along the hill at the border of the towns of Asti and Settime, it has a south exposition; it is inside of the estate together with the royal residence of the 18th century, in the past owned by the Queen of Belgium
 
 
Our cellar is located in the historical wine cellar of Settime, deserted from many years.
 
Restored, now the old cellar is only used at the ground-floor where we have our new machinery for the wine making process. The old wine-thanks, placed on the walls of the cellar and of blu colour, were those that in the past were used for the vinification of the grapes of the associates of the cellar of Settime and now they aren't used.
 
They have been restored only to give to the cellar the original style.

Muscandia was born from the initiative of a group of young wine producers which grown up the vineyards according to iologic requirements
 
From this desire, the shop Muscandia was born in the 2002 and it's located in Settime, Frazione Meridiana 29, on the street which connect Asti to Chivasso, in order to promote their wines and many other typical food of these lands together with olive oil, rice, pasta, meat, vegetables.
 
The "Sun of Muscandia" became very soon the synonymous of the good food: starting from the wines, up to the eggs of biologic hen grown up free, to the wholemeal flours, to the rice, to the different types of honey and jam made like at home, to the different compotes to eat with the fresh and matured cheeses. Everything here is made as you should do at your home.
 
Every morning, also on sunday and on holiday days, the bread is fresh and cooked into the wood oven.
 
In autumn, when the first fogs arrive, the white truffle is the king and it cannot lack from the table.
 
In every season, the main core of Muscandia is the meat of Piedmontese cows which comes exclusively from the breeding of the associates. Not only cow: also pork, chicken, rabbit with a quality and a taste of the past. All these animals are grown up with natural food and respecting the tradition.
