The Business is situated in Motta di Livenza, immersed in the Lison-Pramaggiore DOC wine district. Motta is a small town located in the province of Treviso. It can easily be reached by the nearby main road from Postumia, or by leaving the motorway at the San Stino di Livenza exit. The business, founded in 1967 by Lazzarotto Giuseppe and his sons Beniamino and Bruno, is now run by Bruno and his nephew Simone. You could call it a new business, but it boasts the considerable experience of those who have been working for three generations respecting tradition.
 
As well as producing wine, the “Romeo Lazzarotto” Agricultural Business also runs a farmhouse activity. In fact, apart from our excellent wine, you can also taste delicious dishes prepared according to the tradition and customs of traditional Venetian cuisine. All the food is prepared by our family who make everything just as lunches and dinners used to be prepared after a day’s work in the fields.

Cabernet Franc:
The Cabernet Franc is considered to be our land’s enological strong point. Its vine is perfectly suited to all kinds of soil, but the best results are obtained from clay soils, like ours or hilly marly soils. This is a very vigorous vine, but its production is not always constant. The bunches are of a medium size, and cylindrically conic in shape, with grapes of different sizes due to the well-known difficulties of pollination with this particular species. The grapes are almost spherical in shape with dark blue skins, very resistant. The wine obtained is certainly one of the best in the world, with a lively personality. In our case, the wine obtained from our vineyards, being a French cabernet franc, does not have the marked characteristic aroma and herbaceous taste of the cabernet francs in the area, but is decidedly more harmonious and full.
An intense ruby red wine. Characterised by its aroma and its markedly herbaceous taste: it is full-bodied and aristocratic. A wonderful accompaniment to red meats, prized poultry and game. It should be served at a temperature of 18/20°C. Alcohol content 12.5% VOL.
Deutsch: Der Cabernet Franc wird bei uns als der Eckpfeiler des Weinbaus gewertet. Der Weinstock hat eine gute Anpassungsfähigkeit an jede Art von Gelände, die besten Ergebnisse erzielt er jedoch auf Lehmböden wie unserem oder auf kargem, hügeligem Gelände. Die Weinrebe hat eine gute Stärke, aber sie produziert nicht immer konstant. Die Traube ist mittelgroß, hat eine konische Zylinderform mit Seitentrieben verschiedener Größe, was die Bestäubung schwierig werden lässt. Sie hat eine quasi runde Form mit dunkelblauen, sehr resistenten Schalen. Der daraus gewonnene Wein ist sicherlich einer der größten dieser Welt, mit einer ausgeprägten Persönlichkeit. In unserem Fall präsentiert der von unseren Reben gewonnene Wein - es handelt sich um den französischen Cabernet Franc - seinen charakteristischen grasartigen Geruch und Geschmack des typischen Cabernet Franc dieser Region in besonders ausgeprägter Form.
 
Refosco:
The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso
is a wine with intense rubyred colour with a slight graduation to violett. Its perfume is typical and remembers clearly to blackberries and raspberries. Its taste is rich of tannins and scids. Matured it reaches a broad and delight bouquet. Its an excellent companion to tasty starters, to white and dark meat as well as to cheese of average maturenesses. It should be served at a temperature of 16 - 18°C. Alcohol 13% VOL
The Refosco is a typical wine of the Friuli region and a vigorous plant with a large bunch of pyramidal shape, medium compact with widely spaced grapes and compact wings.
The grape is medium sized with a thin whitish skin and a deep blue colour. The wine has a bright ruby colour with a violet tinge. It is characterized by a vinous-fuity bouquet that reminds one of a wood. In particular it has a raspberry and blackberry herbal fragrance.
When young it is characterized by a nervous, fragrant tannic bouquet which becomes more refined with ageing underlining its slightly bitter flavour and developing an elegant fragrance. This is a classic all courses wine belonging to the antique countryside tradition of the Veneto Friulano borders and to the upper course of the river Livenza.Deutsch: Der Refosco stammt aus Ostvenezien und wird schon seit der Jahrhunderwende in der Region Friaul angebaut.
Die Weinrebe des Refosco hat eine gute Wachstumskraft, eine grosse Traube, pyramidenförmig, dicht oder spärlich, mit dichten Flügeln. Die Beere ist mittelgross mit einer dünnen Schale, die eine intensive blaue Farbe hat. Den Wein, den man erhält hat eine intensiv rubinrote Farbe, der Duft hat eine Himbeer, Brombeer und grasartige Nuance. Der junge Wein ist säuerlich und wohlschmeckend, nach der Lagerung veredelt er sich so, dass sein Geschmack und Duft sehr fein, zart und leicht bitter werden.
 
 
Merlot:
A strong ruby red wine, with a full velvety taste. Its aroma is vinous and slightly herbaceous. Excellent as an accompaniment to salami, roast and stewed meats. It should be served at a temperature of 18/20°C.
Alcohol content 13% VOL.
The Merlot vine is one of the most internationally widespread, thanks to its characteristics of suitability to various types of soil. The wine obtained is always of excellent quality even if it is affected by the type of soil and production. The best results in quality are obtained with a low production of grapes per hectare. The vine is very vigorous, the bunches are quite large and pyramidal in shape, with a medium size wing. The grapes, blue-black in colour with purple hues, are spherical with a resistant skin. This wine, produced following the DOC grape method, is definitely a great wine, characterized by its intense vinous aroma, with a herbaceous hint. It is an irreplaceable wine, thanks to its harmonic completeness and accompanies any type of dish well.
Deutsch: Die Weinsorte Merlot ist eine der am weitesten verbreiteten der Welt, dank seiner Eigenschaft, sich an verschiedene Böden anzupassen. Der gewonnene Wein ist immer von optimaler Qualität, auch wenn er von der Art des Bodens und der Anbauweise beeinflusst wird. Die maximale Leistung in Bezug auf die Qualität wird mit einer niedrigen Anzahl von Weinstöcken pro Hektar erzielt. Die Rebe hat eine gute pflanzliche Stärke, die Traube ist zumeist groß und hat eine pyramidenartige Form. Sie ist mit mittelgroßen Seitentrieben versehen. Die schwarzblaue Beere mit violettem Schimmer ist rund und hat eine resistente Schale. Dieser Wein, der gemäß der Bestimmungen für DOC-Weine produziert wird, ist durch einen intensiven Weingeruch mit einer unbestimmten kräuterartigen Note charakterisiert. Er ist wegen seiner harmonischen Vollständigkeit ein einzigartiger Wein, der sich perfekt für jede Art von Speisen eignet.
 
 
Il Beniamino:
Il Beniamino is produced from the most precious grapes of our wineyard. By reducing the grape quantity we deminish the amount of wine per hektar but we increase significantly the quality. This influences mainly the alcohol gradiation, the colour, the tannins as well as the formation of natural aromas, thus achieving the most important characteristics for maturing this wine in small oak barrels so called barriques. A further secret of this wine can also be found in the ground, in the earth where it is growing. All these important aspects result in this extraordinary wine.
 
This wine should be a companion mainly to delicious red meat, priced poultry both roasted or grilled. It should be served in longshafted wide redwine glasses at a temperature of 18 - 20°C.

Deutsch: Dieser Wein wird aus den edelsten Trauben unseres Weingutes erzeugt. Durch richtigen Rückschnitt der Trauben wird die Quantität pro Hektar reduziert, und dadurch die Qualität des Weines wesentlich verbessert. Dies beeinflusst die Alkoholgrade, die Farbe, die Tannine, sowie natürliche und wertvolle Aromen, also alle wesentlichen Merkmale die ein in Barriques gealterter Wein haben muss. Das Geheimnis dieses edlen Tropfens ist auch mit der Qualität des Bodens eng verbunden. Alle diese wesentlichen Merkmale tragen dazu bei, diesen aussergewöhnlichen Wein keltern zu können:

Raboso frizzante:
A ruby red wine. A fruity aroma with an ample aromatic bouquet that recalls forest fruits. Its taste is sweet and lively, pleasantly soft and acidulous. Serve at 10/12° C. Alcohol content 11.5% VOL..
The Raboso is not originally from Verona. Its name is due to a certain Mr. Veronesi who introduced and spread this species of vine. Raboso Veronese is very different from Raboso Piave and it is mainly grown in the eastern part of the Venice province. The bunches are large and elongated with a wing. The grapes are spheroid, sometimes elongated, with a blue colour very close to a bluish black. Compared to the Raboso Piave, the Raboso Veronese has bunches which are more scanty and its grapes are less acidulous and astringent. With light steeping a slightly more than rosé wine is obtained (cherry red), slightly bitter, harmonious and perfumed.
Deutsch: Der Raboso ist nicht veronesischen Ursprungs. Sein Name stammt von einem gewissen Herrn Veronesi, der diese Weinsorte vertrieben hat. Der Raboso Veronese unterscheidet sich sehr von dem Raboso Piave und wird vor allem in der östlichen Region Venetiens angebaut. Die Traube ist groß und länglich mit einem Seitentrieb. Die Beere ist rund, manchmal auch länglich, mit einer blauen Farbe, die sich sehr dem schwarzblauen annähert. Der veronesische Rabosos unterscheidet sich vom Raboso Piave durch die breitere Traube und die weniger säuerlichen und stopfenden Weinbeeren. Mit einer leichten Fäulnis erzielt man einen etwas mehr als roséfarbenen (kirschigen) Wein, leicht bitter, harmonisch und wohlriechend ist.
 
 
Our white wines:
 
Pinot Grigio:
A wine of pale straw yellow colour, with a fine, persistent aroma and a dry, fresh taste. It is a good accompaniment for starter dishes, a classic fish wine. Serve at 8-10°C. Alcohol content 12% VOL.
This quietly vigorous wine, has existed in the Veneto region for about 60 years. The bunches are small, cylindrical and very compact. The grapes are small and oval in shape and as they ripen they take on a gray-reddish-copper coloration. This is a wine which can boast a certain prestige, you could say a fashionable wine; a fashion which has however lasted for decades. If it is produced in the traditional way, that is leaving the must in contact with the skins for a few hours, the wine obtained takes on a quite original copper colour. At the moment a white method is preferred, whereby a elegant faded straw coloured wine is obtained. As a young wine, it has a pleasantly fruity aroma which, as time passes, takes on its characteristic bouquet of walnut shell and toasted almonds. In any case this is a wine which must be drunk within one year from its production.
 Deutsch: Der Pinot Grigio wird in Venetien seit ca. 60 Jahren verwendet.  Die Traube ist klein, zylindrisch und sehr kompakt. Die Beere ist klein und eiförmig. Beim Heranreifen nimmt Sie eine grau-rötlich-kupferne Farbe an. Es ist ein Wein, der ein gewisses Prestige genießt, man könnte sagen, er ist modern. Diese Mode dauert allerdings schon Jahrzehnte an. Wenn er auf traditionelle Art erzeugt wird, das heißt, dass der Most für einige Stunden mit den Schalen zusammenbleibt, nimmt der Wein die originale fast kupferrote Färbung an. Schon jung hat er einen angenehm fruchtigen Geschmack, der mit der Zeit das charakteristische Bouquet der Schale gerösteter Nüsse und Mandeln annimmt. Es ist auf jeden Fall ein Wein, der innerhalb eines Jahres nach seiner Produktion getrunken werden sollte.
 
The Chardonnay:
is a wine of light pale straw colour. Its perfume is fine and fruity, very elegant with a slight touch to fresh crust.
Its taste is dry, fresh and vivacious. An excellent compagnon to fish startersas well as grilled fish.
It should be served at a temoerature of 6 - 8° C.
Alcohol 13% VOL.
The Chardonnay is spread in France especially in the area of Champagne and in Burgundy. In Italy it is found in the region of Lombardy, in the area of Brescia, Franciacorta, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia and in Veneto. It has rather small, cylindric grapes. The single grape is round, small, yellow and at the end of the maturation it becomes the colour ambra
Deutsch: Lo Chardonnay é diffuso in Francia, specie nella zona dello Champagne e in Borgogna, in Italia lo troviamo in Lombardia, nelle zone di Brescia e Franciacorta, Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia e in Veneto. Ha un grappolo piccolo, cilindrico, con una o due ali. L’ acino è sferico, piccolo, di colore giallo che a maturazione spinta diventa ambrato. La buccia è pruinosa, piuttosto resistente La polpa è citrina, sciolta e dolce, di sapore semplice.
 
Verduzzo frizzante:
Straw yellow in colour, sometimes with golden hues. Its taste is intense with nuances of locust-tree flowers. It is slightly tannic to the palate, full-bodied, but at the same time soft and velvety. Slightly sparkling, it is a good accompaniment to hams and cold cuts, but it is also suitable for other dishes. Serve at 8/10° C. Alcohol content 11.5% VOL
This is a wine that has been grown for many years in the Venice and Treviso provinces. Very vigorous, this vine guarantees a good, constant production. The bunches are of average size, quite compact and pyramidal in shape, The grapes are medium-small, characterized by their extremely pruinose hardness, with definitely pointed ends. Verduzzo has a dry taste with a lively citrine note. Its aroma is fresh and fruity with an ample bouquet that recalls pears and apricots. It goes well with boiled fish, fried foods and risotto.
Deutsch: Der Verduzzo wird seit sehr vielen Jahren im venezianischen und trevignianischen Raum angebaut. Von optimaler Stärke, garantiert sie eine gute und gleichbleibende Produktion. Die Traube ist von mittlerer Größe und hat eine pyramidenartige und vornehmlich kompakte Form. Die Beere ist mittelklein und charakterisiert durch eine extrem harte und reifbedeckte Schale mit einer auffällig gepunkteten Spitze. Der Verduzzo hat einen trockenen Geschmack, herb mit einer lebhaften zitronigen Tönung. Der Duft ist frisch und fruchtig mit einem breiten Bouquet, das an Pfirsiche und Aprikosen erinnert. Er passt gut zu gekochtem Fisch, zu Frittiertem und zu Risotto.
 
 
Spumante Chardonnay Brut:
A sparkling wine, pale in colour, with a delicate, pleasantly fruity aroma and fine, persistent perlage. It is a refined accompaniment to light dishes, desserts, dried fruit. Excellent as an aperitif and ideal as a table wine. An important wine for any occasion. Serve at 6/8°C. Alcohol content 11.5% VOL.
Chardonnay Brut Spumante
This wine with French origins arrived in Italy towards the end of the 19th Century. At first it was confused with white pinot, but it was then recognised as a wine in its own right by a ministerial decree in 1978. A vigorous vine, it has medium-small cylindrical bunches that are of an appropriate compactness with one or two wings. The grapes are spherical, small and of a yellow colour that can sometimes be very intense. The wine is extremely elegant and fine, with a delicate characteristic aroma that recalls Golden Delicious apples. Its taste is pleasantly and harmoniously inviting with hints of apple and acacia flower.

Der Chardonnay Brut, eine aus Frankreich stammende Weinsorte wurde in Italien am Ende des 17.Jahrhunderts eingeführt. Zuvor zusammen mit dem Pinot Bianco angebaut, wurde er im Jahr 1978 durch ein ministerielles Dekret für den Einzelanbau aufgewertet. Der kräftige Weinstock hat eine mittelkleine zylinderförmige Traube mit ein oder zwei kompakten Seitentrieben. Die Beere ist kugelförmig, klein, von gelber, gelegentlich intensiver Farbe. Der Wein ist äußerst fein, von delikatem und charakteristischem Duft, der an die Apfelsorte Golden Delicius erinnert. Der Geschmack ist einladend angenehm und harmonisch mit einer Ahnung Apfel und Akazienblüte.

MOTTA DI LIVENZA
Motta di Livenza is situated where the rivers Livenza and Monticano meet. The word “motta” definitely comes from the primitive artificial small dunes found in the area, whose function, whether religious, military or astronomic, has not yet been ascertained.
Given its strategic point for controlling the waterways, on the border between the Treviso district and Friuli region, Motta di Livenza has always been a point of controversy, and in the 11th-16th Centuries underwent continual political change.
 
THE LIVENZA RIVER
The Livenza is a river with a constant flow, 112 km long and almost entirely navigable, very suitable for fishing (various kinds of Trout, Chub, Carp, “Scarole” and Eels) and has a rich vegetation. Along the river, there are many natural oases which meander along the borders of Friuli and Veneto. Particularly suggestive and interesting from a nature point of view are the two main springs of the Gorgazzo and the Santissima (near Polcenigo), in Friuli, which are situated at the base of the karst massif of the Cansiglio upland plain, an enormous underground watershed which collects the waters of the Park above and is presumably fed by a basin of about 90km. The karst nature of the Cansiglio uplands feeds the springs of the Livenza river. The second spring, near the Santissima sanctuary, has as a characteristic its great flow permitting navigability on the river which empties into the Adriatic sea, near Carole. To these two river springs, we must also add the numerous smaller springs which are distributed along the valley mouths of the Polcenigo hills along the belt of the springs. Right here, in these marshy lands, most of which today have been reclaimed, evidence of prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements has been found, such as those in Palù di Livenza and in nearby Palù di Cordignano. Since ancient times the banks of the Livenza have therefore been an area favoured for settlements, trading, meetings between different cultures, enlivened by a waterway of considerable commercial importance. It must be remembered in fact that the Livenza river acted as a connecting waterway between Roman Oderzo and Caorle through the Monticano area and was probably its port, the “Portus Reatinum”, while at Portobuffolè there was the “Portus de Septimum”, a Venetian commercial terminal for the “burci” loaded with goods. The river flows through many different landscapes, both natural and artificial, the latter transformed by man: from the typical agrarian panorama made up of plants, ditches, hedges or rows of willows alternating with fields of grass or crops, to close, steep meandering woods, up to the flat horizon of the reclaimed land on the lower part of the river.
 
AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT
This territory, favoured by its mild climate, the richness of its waters and its fertile soil, has favoured the settlement of man and contributed to the development of his communities.
The inhabitants of Motta di Livenza have consolidated a very long tradition with respect for the environment and care not to upset its ecological balance. This tradition contributes to the offer of produce of excellent standard: one example are the selected wines obtained from plants of local origin and introduced into the area after the Union of Italy.
The territory which extends to the right of the Livenza river has been recognised as suitable for the production of Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot, Raboso, Tocai and Verduzzo. The territory to the left on the other hand, is specific for the production of Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot, red stalk Refosco, Italian Riesling, Sauvignon, ItalianTocai and Verduzzo.
At the moment, thanks to the vine growers’ ability, this area is attempting to meet the entire market demand by also producing new wines, sparkling or spumante, for which there is great request on the international market and which through their diffusion, will help to make Motta di Livenza known as a “city of wine”.
 
THE WINES' ORIGINS
After the Union of Italy some vines were introduced into Motta di Livenza. Among these the vines of French origin stand out: Cabernet, Franc and Sauvignon and Merlot, which arrived from the Bordeaux region and easily adapted to the soil and the climate in Motta di Livenza; the arrival date of Chardonnay is uncertain, introduced during the last Century but confused with other similar vines, ancient and which had already been present for years in the area, such as white Pinot (originally from France like grey and red Pinots); finally, the Malbech vine cultivated mainly in the Bordeaux area, in that of Gironde and in the Loire valley.
Medieval documents contain records of some very ancient vines of Italian origin which refer to their original production and commerce: they are Raboso (today present in the varieties of Piave and Veronese), Refosco (red stalk Refosco), and Verduzzo (Motta and Friuli); of uncertain and controversial origins are the Tocai and Riesling vines (a vine which was probably introduced or spread by the Roman Imperial troops in the territory conquered as far as the Rhine plains), while Malvasia vine is probably of distant Greek origins, present mainly in the variety called “istriana”. Excellent also the results achieved from the vines produced by cross-fertilisation, such as the Manzoni and the Mueller Thurgau crosses.
