Key players in the South Australian food industry were on show at the 39th Annual Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology Incorporated (AIFST) Convention in Adelaide this week.

Flavour South Australia, the food industry association inc. was on hand to showcase the organization’s role in the development of the South Australian Food Industry and the support it provides to members.

Flavour South Australia aims to increase the economic benefits of food and the food industry to the state from the current $6.9 billion to $15 billion by 2010.

According to Catherine Barnett, Executive Officer, Flavour South Australia, the AIFST Convention acted as a great means to increase the profile of the organization.

“It has been very beneficial for us to be a part of the Convention. It has drawn a great crowd and enabled us to increase awareness of our association. In addition, we have been able to showcase some of our members who are service providers to the industry with support from Food South Australia, the government agency,” said Barnett.

Also on the Flavour South Australia stand was Oenobev, showing the AiroCide PPT a recent addition to the Australian market which can eliminate airborne cross contamination.

Paul Kotaras, Oenobev representative says the AiroCide PPT can kill up to 99% of airborne mould and fungi and kill up to 100% of airborne bacteria.

“We service a lot of different companies involved in the food industry, from wineries to boutique brewing companies to companies that need a product like the AiroCide for their cold storage room.

“The exhibition component of the Convention has been great and acted as way to keep people informed. Technology is always improving and changing and delegates have been able to see the latest at the exhibition,” said Kotaras.

Annie Jefferies, Regency Tafe also part of the Flavour South Australia stand said the opportunities to network during the Convention were priceless.

“The Convention acts as a perfect environment to share knowledge and work together as an industry.

“It also enables us to learn from like minded people and in turn we pass this information on to our students. It’s a great place to foster relationships and education,” said Jefferies.

Murray Pest Control also joined the stand to illustrate just how important pest control is to the food industry.

With 5 million cases of food poisoning in Australia each year, Murray recommend that the industry ensure they are pest free.

Ramsay Group, Medical Books and More also had a strong presence at the Convention.

Mario Ferrari from Ramsay says the group was at the Convention to allow busy professionals who are unable to visit to the shop, see the most recent medical literature available.

”This gives Convention delegates opportunity to review the books before buying them or recommending them to their libraries for purchase.

“This is the first time we have taken part in an AIFST event but it’s a great way to get in front of our target audience and reiterate our position in the market,” said Ferrari.
